Happy New Year,

My wish for all of us is to have the most joyous and peaceful year in our lives to date.

To accomplish this we must make this a daily goal. We can’t wake up in December of 2013 and frantically try to cram in a year’s worth of joy and peace before the ball drops for 2014.This as we all know is easier said than done. I find the major obstacle to making positive changes in my life (that will create the joy and peace) is to get past my fears. My personal philosophy is that all the decisions and choices I make in my life are dictated by two emotions; Love or Fear. I have discovered that fear will most often motivate me into taking irrational and unwise steps in my life or even more disturbingly, will paralyse me into a state of treading water and therefore making the decision to stay with the status quo.

One way or the other I know I am the one making the choice to stay or go.

Have you noticed that when we really want something badly enough we will find a way to overcome the fears and all of our excuses for why we can’t and grab the ring? Could this be because we have decided that the prize we want is as important to us as life itself? We have been willing to one by one isolate each fear look it in the face and move through it.

This cannot be accomplished in one leap or in one day but must be given diligence each day. In order to turn each of our fears “I can’t – I’m not capable – I have always felt like this – I don’t deserve it” — into confidence building “I cans” we need to focus on the truth of who we really are, not what our trickster mind is telling us.

At the beginning of a New Year, we most often evaluate our lives and re-affirm our commitment to a happier year ahead. We are filled with optimism that this year will indeed bring the changes that we have envisioned in some area of our life… This year lets back up our goals for 2013 with a powerful daily ritual, a tool my mother has taught me well, count our blessings one by one and we will have a greater chance of successfully bringing our New Year’s resolutions to fruition.

I recognized some years ago that in order to attain  the goals I set for myself each new year I must build a foundation of thankfulness and confidence in what I have already created in my in my life that is good. When I have moments of doubt and my confidence flies out the window; I revisit Ralph Waldo Emerson‘s quote to bring me back to my senses. “If I have lost confidence in myself, then I have the universe against me”. We want the universe for us- and supporting us. So daily count your blessings as I do and your confidence will grow and the universe will be your ally in whatever area of your life you are focused on improving.

Our career situation is a major factor in determining the quality of life we will experience in 2013 and beyond .This is an area that could be affecting your overall quality of life:

  • Do you feel your life only begins when you come home from work?
  • Is your dissatisfaction with your work affecting your personal and family life?
  • Is work stress affecting your health?
  • Are you feeling unappreciated and not receiving the recognition you deserve.
  • Do you feel you have lost sight of your purpose in life?
  • Are you capable of so much more?

If you have said yes to one or more of the above questions then I would suggest the time is now to embark on what  in my experience can be an exciting life changing journey.
